E-Max Crowns

What Are E-Max Crowns?
Overview

What Are E-Max Crowns?

E-Max crowns are crafted from IPS e.max lithium disilicate, a high-performance glass-ceramic material developed by Ivoclar Vivadent. Renowned for their exceptional translucency and lifelike appearance, E-Max crowns are widely regarded as the gold standard in aesthetic dental restorations. The material closely replicates the optical properties of natural tooth enamel, allowing light to pass through the crown in the same way it does through a real tooth. This creates a remarkably natural result that is virtually impossible to distinguish from surrounding teeth. E-Max crowns are particularly popular for front teeth restorations where aesthetics are the top priority.

E-Max vs. Zirconium Crowns
Comparison

E-Max vs. Zirconium Crowns

While both E-Max and Zirconium are excellent metal-free crown materials, they have distinct characteristics that make each better suited for specific situations. E-Max crowns offer superior translucency and the most natural appearance, making them the ideal choice for front teeth and highly visible areas of the smile. They have a flexural strength of approximately 400 MPa, which is more than sufficient for anterior teeth. Zirconium crowns, with a flexural strength exceeding 1,000 MPa, are significantly stronger and are better suited for back teeth or patients who grind their teeth. Many patients opt for a combination approach, using E-Max for the visible front teeth and Zirconium for the molars.

The E-Max Crown Procedure
The Process

The E-Max Crown Procedure

The E-Max crown procedure leverages advanced CAD/CAM technology for precision results. After the initial consultation and tooth preparation, a detailed digital scan is taken of your prepared tooth and surrounding teeth. This digital impression is used to design your crown with computer-aided design software, ensuring a precise fit and optimal aesthetics. The design is then sent to a milling unit or dental laboratory where your E-Max crown is fabricated from a solid block of lithium disilicate ceramic. The crown undergoes a crystallization firing process that gives it its final strength and translucency. At your fitting appointment, the crown is tried in, carefully adjusted, and permanently bonded using a specialized adhesive cement.

Benefits & Features

Superior Translucency

E-Max crowns allow light to pass through just like natural tooth enamel, creating a lifelike appearance that is unmatched by any other crown material.

High Strength

With a flexural strength of approximately 400 MPa, E-Max crowns are strong enough for most dental restorations while maintaining their beautiful aesthetics.

Biocompatible

E-Max is completely metal-free and biocompatible, eliminating the risk of allergic reactions and the dark gum lines sometimes seen with metal-based crowns.

Precise Fit with CAD/CAM

Advanced digital scanning and computer-aided design ensure each E-Max crown is milled to exact specifications for a precise, comfortable fit.

Minimal Tooth Preparation

The strength of E-Max allows for thinner crown walls, meaning less of your natural tooth structure needs to be removed during preparation.

Natural Light Reflection

The glass-ceramic composition of E-Max reflects and refracts light in the same way as natural enamel, ensuring your crown looks authentic in all lighting conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Neither material is universally better; each excels in different areas. E-Max crowns offer superior aesthetics and translucency, making them the top choice for front teeth. Zirconium crowns are stronger and more suitable for back teeth where biting forces are greatest. Your dentist will recommend the best material based on the location and function of the tooth being restored.
E-Max crowns typically last 15 to 20 years with proper care. Their longevity depends on factors such as oral hygiene habits, bite alignment, and whether you grind your teeth. Regular dental check-ups and wearing a night guard if needed will help ensure your crowns last as long as possible.
E-Max crowns can be used on premolars and in some cases on molars, but Zirconium is generally recommended for back teeth due to its superior strength. For patients who prioritize aesthetics even on posterior teeth, newer formulations of E-Max have improved strength that can accommodate lighter biting forces.
One of the significant advantages of E-Max crowns is their excellent color stability. The ceramic material is highly resistant to staining from coffee, tea, wine, and other common culprits. Unlike composite materials, E-Max crowns maintain their shade and brightness throughout their lifespan.
A typical E-Max crown treatment requires 5 to 7 days in Turkey. This allows time for the initial consultation, tooth preparation, laboratory fabrication of your crowns, and the final fitting appointment. We arrange comfortable accommodation and all transfers to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
