Turkey is not the problem. Unvetted clinics are. The country has world-class surgeons and state-of-the-art facilities — but the booming industry has also attracted bad actors. Here are the five most common scams and how to protect yourself.
How it works:
You're shown a famous surgeon's profile during the sales process. On the day of surgery, a different — often unlicensed — technician performs the procedure. The “lead surgeon” may briefly appear but does none of the actual work.
How to protect yourself:
Get written confirmation of exactly who will perform the extraction and implantation. Ask for the surgeon's medical license number and verify it independently. Insist on meeting the operating surgeon before the day of the procedure.
How it works:
You're promised 4,500 grafts but only receive 2,500. Since you're under local anesthesia and can't count, there's no way to verify in real-time. You only discover the shortfall months later when growth is sparse.
How to protect yourself:
Choose a clinic that counts grafts in front of you or provides photo documentation of extracted grafts before implantation. Reputable clinics will count grafts in batches and photograph each batch.
How it works:
Clinics purchase or steal results photos from other surgeons and present them as their own work. Some use photo editing to enhance results. Others show only their top 1% of outcomes.
How to protect yourself:
Ask for video testimonials, not just photos. Request to see a range of results, not just the best cases. Reverse-image-search their before/after photos. Look for consistent backgrounds and photography style across their portfolio.
How it works:
You're quoted $1,500 for an “all-inclusive” package. On arrival, you're told PRP treatment is $500 extra, medications are $200, and the “premium technique” upgrade is another $1,000. By this point, you've already flown to Turkey and feel trapped.
How to protect yourself:
Get a detailed, itemized quote in writing before booking flights. Ask specifically: “What is NOT included?” Reputable clinics will never pressure you to upgrade on the day of surgery.
How it works:
The clinic advertises “unlimited grafts for one price” to lure you in. In reality, your donor area can only safely provide a limited number of grafts. Over-harvesting leads to permanent scarring and a depleted donor zone that can never be used again.
How to protect yourself:
Any surgeon who promises “unlimited grafts” is either lying or willing to damage your donor area. A responsible surgeon will assess your donor capacity and give you a realistic number, typically 4,000–5,500 maximum per session.
We've already done the vetting for you. Every clinic in our network is doctor-led, verified, and backed by our US-based support team.
